Koenigsegg super cars – when super-fast meets precision slow
Owners of high-performance sports car want to stand out from the crowd, so their cars have to look amazing. But if you own the world’s fastest production car - a Koenigsegg – it is even more important to turn heads everywhere you go. The Swedish-based car manufacturer has relied on Moses Bil & Lack, a family-run bodyshop in the small village of Sätaröd, Sweden, and Standox, for more than six years to help achieve the first-class paintwork on these four-wheeled carbon fibre works of art.
A world beyond the ordinary
While nearly every other bodyshop is focused on being more efficient and processing cars faster, the painting process for a Koenigsegg can take a staggering 1,200 hours of work. And with up to four of these super cars painted at any one time, it is no surprise that Mose Freyer, owner of Moses Bil & Lack, invested in a separate paint line exclusively for Koenigsegg. “Working on these cars requires true craftsmanship that simply cannot be compared to any other painting or refinishing process. You must have intuitive instinct and prioritise quality above all else,” says Freyer, who works closely with his staff and our Standox technical specialists in Sweden to ensure that every step of the paint process is handled with quality and precision.
The more unique, the better
And it’s not just the painting process that is carried out with complete precision. Choosing the perfect colour for a new car is a precise and complex process; customers know exactly what they want. As Freyer explains, “it’s not unusual to receive requests for 24 karat gold or platinum shavings to be added to the paint mix.”
But establishing the exact colour, or matching anything from a nail polish to the shade of a mountain range near a customer’s home, is a painstaking process. Koenigsegg customers are very dedicated to the specification process and care deeply about the details, so finding the right shade is crucial. To facilitate this, Mose’s daughter Lina works closely with Koenigsegg’s Art Director Lisa Johansson to ensure the exact colour is identified. Lina relies on the 8,000 colours available in our Colour Box. Freyer emphasises, “At every stage of the colour matching process, the customer’s expectation must be met.”
Quality above all else
The preparation and painting of each of the carbon fibre components is done with precision and sensitivity, using a selection of Standox products to ensure optimal quality. Once the basecoat is dry, every square centimetre of the paint finish is examined closely by a refinisher to ensure it is absolutely perfect, before the final clearcoat is applied, which gives the Koenigsegg its ultimate glossy finish. And then the sanding and polishing starts!
No car part is returned to Koenigsegg until the colour is 100% accurate. Freyer says, “We wouldn’t be able to do all of this without the support from Standox. It is the only brand to achieve the quality that we demand. All of the products are unrivalled, from start to finish, and at Moses Bil & Lack we strive for the same goals - to exceed our customers’ expectations. And in a nutshell, that’s why I’ve relied on Standox for 30 years.”
